This is Jorge @trote35 . I have historically trained him with a strength and conditioning program for football performance but the last 6 weeks we have been focusing on Olympic lifting. This last session with me before Christmas so we had a look at the main lifts to bring it all together.
First we started with a little barbell warm up. Using an empty bar, 5 x 5 front squats, 3 x 6 OH Lunge to shoulder press, and Snatch Balances to finish. Plenty of movement through a large range. The empty bar snatch balances I like to finish with to prep the mind into dropping into the snatches to follow.
As I have already mentioned this was less a training session and more bringing the last six weeks together and looking at the lifts. Some triples of snatches and of cleans. Great progress over the last six weeks starting from scratch but still took for improvement.
A few jerks followed by some clean and jerk singles up to 60kg. The heaviest Jorge has put over head by 20kg!
Since writing this, Jorge has put another 15kg on his clean, up to 75kg from the 60kg he lifted at Christmas!
Jorge doesn’t want to drop into his catch on the clean. So we finished with some skill work, hang cleans attempting to catch low. Still not low enough so definitely something we’ll be working on in the new year.
