Lucy Robinson – Diver and Powerlifter

I’m a bit late to the game with ths post as the European powerlifting championships was a few weeks ago now, but I’ve just got this site finished, so better late than never.

And what a great post to start my blog with!  I’ve been training Lucy for years as part of my work with Bradford Esprit Diving Club as their strength and conditioning coach, but one fateful day about 11 months before the aforementioned European Championships, Lucy misplaced her program.  As she didn’t know what she was supposed to be deadlifting I just though we’d see how much she could deadlift.  She shocked me by pulling a 95kg deadlift with no real background of heavy deadlift training!

After a chat with the head diving coach and subsequent conversations with her parents she was signed up for her first powerliting competition, the YNEPF 2016 classic.  She did amazingly squatting 85kg, benching 40kg and dedadlifting 105kg.

The powerlfiting training then really started, and we started training regularly at New Era Fitness in Yeadon.

She qualified for the British Championships so I planned all our training, Lucy was really committed and worked really hard and she improved further on her lifts at nationals squatting 105kg, benching 50kg and deadlifting 127kg, breaking four british records and five YNEPF records and winning her class (-57kg sub junior).

This performance earnt her selection on the GB team for 2017 internationals which brings us to this European competition.  Training was hard an intense and she turned up at Europeans and squatted 110kg (very very nearly got 115kg), benched 50kg with ease and deadlifted 132.5kg like it was nothing, breaking another two British records and earning her 3rd place.  She’s done all of this and she’s only 15 years old!

Next up, Worlds!
